GALLERY OF STUDENT WORK

Watercolor pumpkins. For this 6th grade project we talked about many things. The first being VALUE- light to medium to dark, and how value helps make objects look more realistic. We spent some time on COLOR- warm verses cool and how all  cool or all warm colors will blend but when you put a warm color against a cool color it will pop (like the METS uniforms!) Another important note is that pumpkins are typically orange, BUT this is art class, pumpkins can be whatever color you choose to make them!  We focused on COMPOSITION- filling the space pleasingly, drawing large and using the background space. We always talk about good CRAFTSMANSHIP- How taking your time and focusing helps your artwork to come out neater and helps you gain in skill. Another thing the students learned about is SURREALISM- that objects don't have to be placed in their normal settings. You will notice that everyone used a pumpkin as subject matter, but no 2 compositions are alike! In Art Class you have to make it your own- CREATIVITY!

Kids love clay! The satudents planned out theirTiki Masks by coming up with a God or Goddess to represent. It could be based on ancient mythology or one thgey created on their own, such as Eriks's "Rangers God of Hockey." We learned about the stages of clay, how to join pieces together, addative and subtractive sculpture, and textures in clay. Color choice was a major factor as well as working with a theme. Effort, originality and good craftsmanship are always sressed as well.
